| Swiss success in men's 800m Bucher triumphs in the 800m final Race favourite Andre Bucher has won his first major title, taking the 800 metres at the World Championships in impressive fashion. The Swiss sped home in a time of one minute 43.70, after taking full advantage of a fast pace set by Wilfred Bungei and William Yiampoy. He made his decisive break on the final bend, seeing off the two Kenyans with relative ease. Bungei held on for silver, but Yiampoy tied up towards the end and was caught on the line by Poland's Pavel Czapiewski, who took bronze. Bucher had the season's fastest time coming into the championship and was undefeated this year. However, having gathered five silver medals in major championships prior to Edmonton, it was with great joy that he won his first gold. |
