| Brotherton's Tour moment: Stage two Van Hyfte was honoured by the Tour de France field Throughout the Tour de France Simon Brotherton is providing daily race reports for BBC Five Live and he is also giving Sport Online his Tour moment of the day. Belgian journeyman professional Paul Van Hyfte takes the honours today, providing our moment of the day on the road to Antwerp. Van Hyfte, of the Belgian Lotto team, was allowed to ride ahead of the main field as the race approached his home town. Grinning from ear-to-ear, he revelled in his five minutes of fame, waving to everyone at the roadside and clearly recognising some of those on hand to cheer him on. It is nice to see that even in an event as big, competitive and commercial as the Tour De France, there is room for a rider of some years experience to be shown respect by his peers. Van Hyfte was the toast of his town when the Tour went through. Now, he will probably head for the anonymity of the peloton once again. |
