(All times BST)

1520 Francois Simon - who started the day in the yellow jersey - finishes 13'21" behind Armstrong who takes the overall lead.

1511 The provisional top five in the 13th stage of the Tour de France are:

1. Lance Armstrong (US Postal)
2. Jan Ullrich (Telekom) at 59"
3. Joseba Beloki (ONCE) at 1'45"
4. Roberto Heras (US Postal) st
5. Stefano Garzelli (Mapei) at 2'28"

1510 Beloki finishes 3rd behind Armstrong & Ullrich. The ONCE rider is 1'45" behind Armstrong and just ahead Roberto Heras.

1508 Ullrich comes home in second place 59 seconds behind Armstrong.

1507 Armstrong wins the stage.

1502 Just 2km left for Armstrong who is extending his advantage over Ullrich.

1500 With 3km remaining Armstrong is more than half-a-minute clear of Ullrich.

1458 Beloki and Heras pass a fading Jalabert. Lance Armstrong closes in on the yellow jersey as he extends his lead over Simon.

1455 An incredible climbing display sees Armstrong charge clear of Jalabert who is about to be joined by Ullrich.

1453 Armstrong catches Jalabert.

1451 Armstrong moves up a gear and leaves Ullrich who cannot match his change of pace.

1450 With around 5km remaining Jalabert's lead is down to 50 seconds

1448 Ullrich attacks but Armstrong goes with him.

1446 Garzelli is finally caught by Armstrong, Heras and Ullrich. Jalabert seems to be slowing.

1443 Jalabert is now 1'45" ahead of Armstrong, Heras and Ullrich.

1440 Garzelli is still second and just 1'20" behind Jalabert who faces being caught at the finish after leading all day.

1437 The main challengers are all into the final 10km climb of the stage. The Armstrong group is 2'50" behind the lead of Jalabert.

1435 Andrei Kivilev - who started the day second overall - is still with Armstrong and Ullrich and could take the yellow jersey if Simon continues to struggle

1433 Jalabert's fall costs him time but with 10km to go he is still 1'40" ahead of Garzelli and three minutes ahead of Ullrich and Armstrong.

1431 Stage leader Jalabert comes off his bike on a bend but quickly remounts.

1428 Overall leader Simon makes the top of the climb 8'45" behind.

1423 Armstrong's group reach the summit 2'45" behind Jalabert.

1422 Jalabert's lead is being eroded. Garzelli passes the summit of the fifth climb - the Col de Val-Louron-Azet - just 1'50" behind.

1417 Armstrong is rejoined by team-mate Roberto Heras. Garzelli is holding onto second place from the now six-strong Armstrong/Ullrich group.

1415The latest official check shows Jalabert's lead is 3'25".

1414 Simon, in the yellow jersey, is seven minutes behind Jalabert

1412 Beloki has been reeled in and is in a group of Armstrong, Ullrich, Kivilev and Botero who are chasing Grazelli in second place.

1408 Joseba Beloki - one of the riders with Armstrong and Ullrich - attacks and moves 100m ahead of his rivals.

1406 Jalabert is just 26km from the finish but his lead is being cut and is less than three-and-a-half minutes.

1402 Armstong and Ullrich have caught everyone bar Jalabert and Garzelli.

1358 Jalabert still leads by more than four minutes. Santiago Botero and Stefano Garzeli have taken over from Vinokourov and Vermaut in second and third place.

1354 Ullrich is back in touch with Armstrong in a five strong group in pursuit of the four riders who lead the stage.

1352 Armstrong has no support and slows the pace down allowing a mud covered Ullrich to close the gap.

1351 Kevin Livingston of the Telekom team waits for Ullrich and they set off in pursuit of Armstrong.

1349 Ullrich escapes serious injury and is back on his bike but the hard work he put in to attack Armstrong has come to nothing. The Telekom rider misjudged a corner and went flying over his handlebars into roadside bushes.

1347 Jan Ullrich goes off the road as he attacks a descent.

1344 Ullrich attacks but Armstrong stays on his shoulder as the big two pull clear of the peloton.

1337 Jalabert is the new owner of the Polka-Dot jersey after winning the fourth climb of the day and his third in succession.

1334 The Armtrong/Ullrich pack continues to reel in the front-runners. Alberto Lopez de Munain and Sven Montgomery are about to be caught.

1330 The Telekom team force the pace at the front of the main group in a bid to break the US Postal challenge but Armstrong stays in touch.

1325 Baldato and Roux - who were part of the break which began at 26km - are now being caught by the group of Armstrong and Ullrich.

1320 The peloton has split with a pack of 20 leading the chasing group. Jan Ullrich and Lance Armstrong are both involved but they're still 8'35" behind Jalabert. Simon is a further 25 seconds adrift.

1311 Tour leader Francois Simon is safe in the main peloton which is being led by five riders from the Telekom team.

1309 Laurent Jalabert stays in front with Steve Vermaut and Alexandre Vinokourov nearly four minutes behind. The peloton is 10'20" behind Jalabert.

1300 Laurent Jalabert has made a move for the King of the Mountains title in the Pyrennees.

The Frenchman, 18th overall, was part of a nine strong group that went clear of the peloton early on in the 194km 13th stage - from Foix to Saint-Lary-Soulan.

Jalabert then attacked again on the descent of the Col du Portet d'Aspet and left the breakaway to go clear on his own.

With the US Postal team controlling things at the front of the main pack, Lance Armstrong seemed content to play a waiting game and maintain his advantage over Jan Ullrich.
