| Waugh confident of Ashes return Mark Waugh broke his finger against India Mark Waugh is confident he will be fit for Australia's tour to England after breaking a finger in India. Waugh was sent home after suffering the injury during his match-winning 133 not out in the second one-day international against India. The 35-year-old broke the little finger on his right hand, but should recover in time to take his place in the Ashes squad. "It was pretty sore," said Waugh on his arrival back in Sydney. "But I didn't really know until a couple of days later when I had an X-ray and it showed a fracture down on the little right finger. But it will be no problem."
Australia are expecting a tough challenge for the Ashes this summer. They have not lost an Ashes series since 1987, but Michael Slater believes England will pose a real threat. "England have had a couple of good series recently," said the Australian opener. "They are confident and their form is up. They are going to be a lot tougher outfit." | See also: 30 Mar 01 | India v Australia 28 Mar 01 | India v Australia 24 Mar 01 | India v Australia Top India v Australia stories now: Links to more India v Australia stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
