| Framewatch: Hunter 10-9 O'Brien Benson & Hedges Masters final (Best of 19 frames) Frame scores: Frame 1: Hunter 40-59 O'Brien Both players start nervously but O'Brien finally secures the frame after 30 minutes when Hunter misses the pink. Frame 2: Hunter 57-68 O'Brien Hunter notches up a break of 46 but then lets O'Brien in. With three balls to pot, Hunter misses a simple blue and O'Brien pinches the frame. Frame 3: Hunter 67-44 O'Brien Hunter wins the frame in 19 minutes with a main break of 31. Frame 4: Hunter 48-80 O'Brien Hunter makes a break of 32 but overcuts a simple red with the balls well placed. O'Brien seizes the opportunity and hits a break of 80 to lead as the players go into the interval. Frame 5: Hunter 30-72 O'Brien Hunter again begins brightly but allows his lead to slip. O'Brien puts in a break of 43. Hunter gets a glimmer of hope but fails to pot a crucial red and allows O'Brien back in to take the frame. Frame 6: Hunter 56-71 O'Brien O'Brien snookers Hunter on the yellow. Hunter flukes the ball in but misses the green and O'Brien takes the frame. Frame 7: Hunter 78-0 O'Brien Hunter finds his composure and a break of 51 is enough to reduce the overall deficit to 5-2.
O'Brien eventually pots an awkwardly placed yellow and wins the frame when Hunter fouls by knocking the black when playing a shot off the brown. Frame 9: Hunter 61-53 O'Brien Hunter misses a red to the centre to allow O'Brien in to make a break of 49. Hunter then flukes a red on his return and clears up with 52 to take the first frame of the evening. Frame 10: Hunter 54 -57 O'Brien A scrappy frame as ten reds are left near to the left cushion. A break of 18 from Hunter leaves O'Brien requiring a snooker, but when Hunter then strikes the black when aiming for the yellow, O'Brien takes advantage. He clears the colours to restore his four frame lead. Frame 11: Hunter 51-43 O'Brien Another close encounter, but Hunter is victorious with a clearance of 20. A fantastic position gained after potting the yellow keeps Hunter in the match. Frame 12: Hunter 133-6 O'Brien Hunter produces the first major break of the final to close the gap to two frames at the interval. He scores an outstanding clearance of 129 to put the pressure back on O'Brien. Frame 13: Hunter 136-0 O'Brien Early cat-and-mouse at the beginning of the frame but a mistake by O'Brien lets in Hunter and a choice of reds. He duly takes his chance with a clearance of 101 to draw to within one frame of O'Brien. Frame 14: Hunter 0-88 O'Brien O'Brien checks the charge of Hunter by seizing an early opportunity in the frame. He compiles a confident break of 88 to restore his advantage to two frames once again. Frame 15: Hunter 104-0 O'Brien Hunter responds immediately. After an initial break of 29, Hunter ruthlessly takes the second opportunity offered to him. A break of 75 ends when he misses the brown but with the standard rising with every frame Hunter closes the gap to one frame. Frame 16: Hunter 136-0 O'Brien Hunter's outstanding run of form continues as he levels proceedings with another fine exhibition of potting. A magnificent clearance of 136 equals the highest break of the tournament set earlier by Jimmy White and pockets Hunter �10,000. Frame 17: Hunter 132-0 O'Brien Things just get better for Hunter. His fourth century break in six frames takes him into the lead for the first time. A clearance of 132 leaves O'Brien sat in his chair still waiting for an opportunity. Frame 18: Hunter 44-62 O'Brien O'Brien shows his character coming back from 44 points down to take the match into a final frame. A tricky pot on the pink is made to look easy by the Irishman. Frame 19: Hunter 77-44 O'Brien The decider was a tense affair. O'Brien looked to have a great opportunity but after making 15 he fouled on the black. Hunter then took advantage with a break of 38 before missing the last red. The match came down to a tactical battle on the colours with fantastic safety play from both players. Hunter twice failed to get out of snookers but when O'Brien missed a free ball Hunter capitalised. |
