Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and Jared Palmer are celebrating winning the mixed doubles title at this year's US Open.

The second seeds captured the title after a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Anna Kournikova and Max Mirnyi.

It was the first time Sanchez-Vicario and Palmer had played together.

Palmer said: "I think the key to the whole week was Arantxa returned serves so well.

"Arantxa is such a good returner I was able to do some stuff up at the net.

While Sanchez-Vicario added: ""I try to help as much as I can.

"Jared gave me a lot of confidence. I feel comfortable playing with him."

They won the first prize of $126,000, while the fourth seeded team of Kournikova and Mirnyi won $63,000.

Kournikova and Mirnyi upset the top-seeded team of Rennae Stubbs and Todd Woodbridge in the semi-finals.
