Mark Williams' practice partner and also a superstar in his own right, Matthew Stevens is one of snooker's brightest prospects.

Last year, the 23-year-old burst on to the scene by winning the invitational Regal Masters and the Benson and Hedges Masters, before finishing a close second behind great friend Williams at the World Championships.

Stevens, who must be sick of the sight of his training partner, was also runner-up to Williams at the UK Championship.

He is currently ranked sixth in the world and has yet to win a ranking event, but it is only a matter of time before the lad from Carmarthen challenges for the top spot.

He is one of the most fluent break-builders in the game and his manager, Geoff Faint, has nothing but praise for Stevens.

Faint said: "Matthew has a very bright future and will be a top player for many years to come.

"He is still gaining experience but he has already shown that he has the big-match temperament."
