Brotherton's Tour moment
The peleton was infiltrated by Basque protestors
The peleton was infiltrated by Basque protestors
Radio 5 Live's Simon Brotherton sees a bizarre finish to stage 15 as Basque protestors infiltrate the race but fortunately do not affect the result.

The most notable moment of the 15th stage came when several rogue riders infiltrated the race near the finish line.

They turned out to be Basque protestors and one of them in a Kelme team outfit tried to join the leading rider Marco Pantani as he approached the line.

A few commentators were fooled believing it was Roberto Herras - but the pot-belly and hairy legs were a bit of a giveaway, and he was rapidly removed from the course.

Two more infiltrated Richard Virenque's group, including one dressed in a yellow jersey.

Just to add to the confusion, one of the genuine riders, Dutchman Marc Lotz of Rabobank, crossed the line in a bright orange wig.

Fortunately the race was not affected in any way.
