| Friday, 7 July, 2000, 20:12 GMT 21:12 UK Brotherton's Tour moment Agnolutto's win was a rare French triumph Throughout the Tour de France Simon Brotherton is providing daily race reports for BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC World Service - he is also giving Sport Online his Tour moment of the day. Today's highlight was undoubtedly the victory for Christophe Agnolutto - the first stage win for a Frenchman since Jacky Durand won stage eight at Montauban two years ago. The French may have won the World Cup and Euro 2000 but success on the Tour has been thin on the ground. In fact, a Frenchman has not won the Tour since 1985 when Bernard Hinault claimed the last of his five Tour victories. Agnolutto is ranked at 462 in the world but is a former winner of the Tour of Switzerland. However, his breakway win should not disguise the fact that he has no chance of final victory in Paris in two weeks time. | See also: 07 Jul 00 | Tour de France 07 Jul 00 | Tour de France 06 Jul 00 | Tour de France 06 Jul 00 | Tour de France 05 Jul 00 | Tour de France 05 Jul 00 | Tour de France 04 Jul 00 | Tour de France 04 Jul 00 | Tour de France Top Tour de France stories now: Links to more Tour de France stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
