Clarke relishing Tiger test
Darren Clarke with the English Open trophy
Darren Clarke with the English Open trophy
Darren Clarke says he cannot wait for the US Open to start next Thursday after winning his third English Open title in four years.

Clarke carded a 68 in the final round at Forest of Arden to finish 17 under par, three shots ahead of Denmark's Soren Hansen.

And after his win, Clarke, who partners Tiger Woods in the opening two rounds at Bethpage, said he feels a second title in seven days could be a possibility.

"I'm relishing the thought already," Clarke said.

I hit more fairways than I have in I don't know how long
Darren Clarke
"I won't be distracted or intimidated and if I have the same focus as this week nothing will bother me.

"There are going to be 18 tough holes this week (at Bethpage), so I'm glad I'm comfortable hitting the ball where I want to. The eagle on the 12th got me into a great position."

Clarke flies out on Concorde to New York on Monday, and was especially happy with his driving on the way to victory.

"My driving has been fantastic," Clarke said.

"I hit more fairways than I have in I don't know how long.

"My whole game is pretty solid right now and if I keep driving like this and hitting quality shots hopefully I'll give myself a chance next weekend."

He admitted that the weather conditions had not helped.

"It was horrible for a while and very difficult to make a proper swing," he said.
