Mark Roe and Jesper Parnevik have been given a small consolation after their disqualification from the Open.

The Royal and Ancient announced on Monday they would award the pair prize money of �8,250 despite the mix-up over scorecards that saw both players disqualified.

That is the amount they would have earned for finishing joint 74th.

Roe was joint fourth at Royal St George's after a third-round 67, but was excluded along with Swedish playing partner Parnevik after the pair accidentally marked their scores on each other's cards.

The 40-year-old called for rule changes and steps will now be taken to ensure such incidents are not repeated, although no amendments to the rules are planned.

Peter Dawson, secretary of the R&A, said: "The Mark Roe incident was obviously a great tragedy - no-one ever likes to see that.

"We'd be crazy not to revue our procedures thoroughly, because incidents of this kind are very undesirable.

"We shall pause for reflection over the winter before next year's championship and have a thorough review of it."
