Oldcorn, who has failed to make an Open cut for the past three years, was the best placed Scot at Royal St George's with an eight over par total of 292.

Oldcorn carded a final day 73 to go with his previous rounds of 72, 74 and 73 and finish in a tie for 29th place.

However, a brighter finish looked likely with Oldcorn posting 11 consecutive pars on Sunday before picking up birdies at the twelfth and thirteenth holes.

But the demanding closing stretch proved costly, with four bogeys coming over the final five holes.

Alastair Forsyth carded a final day 75 to finish at 13 over par for the tournament.

Forsyth, who was tied for fourth place on Saturday morning after opening with a 74 and a 70, fell off the pace with a 78 on day three.

Sunday saw the Paisley-based 27-year-old score six bogeys, including dropped shots at the opening hole and the tricky seventeenth and eighteenth holes.

Forsyth did, however, pick up shots at the tenth and fourteenth.

"It's very frustrating out there," Forsyth told BBC Radio Scotland.

"I don't think I played badly at all.

"When you think you've hit a shot right at the flag it can bounce or roll right off the putting surface.

"And if you do land it on the green it can be 60 feet away from the hole, which makes it so tough to get down in two."

Former Open winners Sandy Lyle and Paul Lawrie failed to make the cut, along with fellow Scots Euan Little and Colin Montgomerie - who pulled out with an injured hand on the first day.
