Woosnam was undone on the back nine holes

The former US Masters champion shot a four over par round of 75 on the second day at Sandwich, for a six over par total at the halfway stage.

The cut came at eight over par as the field continued to struggle with the conditions, with leader Davis Love III the only player to get under par on one under.

Woosnam got off to a terrible start with three consecutive bogeys on the opening holes.

He recovered to one over par thanks to four birdies in six holes, but a further five dropped shots on the back nine sent him crashing down the leaderboard.

"It's playing a little easier from tee to green, but it's difficult to stop the ball on the greens," Woosnam told BBC Sport.

Fellow Welshman Bradley Dredge missed the halfway cut after ending day two on 10 over par.

He carded a creditable one over par round of 72 on Friday, but his opening round of 80 had left him with too much to do.

Phillip Price had a later start and improved on his opening round of 74.

But he could still only manage a one over par 72 second time out and fell to four over par for the tournament.

However, with all the competitors finding it hard to avoid bogies, Price was still well placed to make the cut comfortably and is in touch with the leaders.

"It was probably more difficult this afternoon because the course dried up and the greens got much quicker - it put the pins in more difficult positions," Price said.

"I battled particularly well today, so to shoot one over was good.

"I seemed to have a lot of support today, which I probably never had before (the Ryder Cup), so I'll look forward to more of that this weekend."
