 | Woods always attracts a crowd |
Security surrounding Open Championship favourite Tiger Woods is to be stepped up at Royal St George's.
Open officials promised to review their arrangements after the world number one was jostled by fans following practice on Tuesday.
Police had coralled a crowd of autograph hunters to the left of the 18th green as Woods completed his round.
But when he decided to head for the nearby practice ground on foot, fans swarmed around the American.
It took police and marshals several minutes to establish a cordon around the clearly displeased star.
At one point, he had his shirt pulled and had to elbow his way through the scrum of officials and over-eager supporters.
Peter Dawson, the secretary of Open organisers the Royal and Ancient, said: "We will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure there is no repeat."
Woods, the 2000 Open champion at St Andrews, habitually goes out early to practice at major tournaments in a bid to avoid the crowds.
But the good weather and huge interest in this first Open at Sandwich since 1993 has brought spectators flocking to the practice days at Royal St George's.
Woods tees off on Thursday at 0909 BST with Spain's Sergio Garcia and, making his Open debut, Luke Donald of Britain.
