Harrington enjoyed a better time with the putter in the third round |
Ryder Cup wildcard Padraig Harrington recovered from a poor start to his round to post a 69 and end the day five under at the Vivendi Cup in Paris. The 39-year-old, playing as a warm-up for next weekend's Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, was last after five holes before hitting seven birdies in 12 holes. That dragged Harrington, without a win since the 2008 USPGA, to five under and a share of 40th, 10 shots off the pace. England's John Parry leads, one ahead of Mark Haastrup and Johan Edfors. Parry, who was joint second round leader with Sweden's Jarno Sandelin, carded a two-under round of 70, his highest score in the tournament so far. | 606: DEBATE |
That gave him a one-shot advantage over Haastrup, whose 66 was the best round of the day, and Edfors. Apart from Parry the best-placed British player is England's Kenneth Ferrie on 12 under, with Scotland's Andrew McArthur on 10 under and Liam Bond the best-placed Welsh player, on seven-under. Bond is level with European Ryder Cup vice-captain Paul McGinley, who is the only Cup player other than Harrington who is still in the tournament. Another of the team's vice-captains, Thomas Bjorn, failed to make the cut.
