S4C Wales Ladies Championship of Europe Venue: Conwy Golf Club Date: Thursday, 12 August - Sunday, 15 August
Boulden is one of four Welsh amateurs in the Conwy Golf Club line-up |
A record 12 home competitors will challenge for the Wales Ladies Championship of Europe this week. Becky Brewerton, Becky Morgan, Lydia Hall, Breanne Loucks, Jo Pritchard, Sahra Hassan, Rhian Wyn Thomas and Louise Davis will take part in Conwy. Amateurs Amy Boulden, Tara Davies, Gemma Bradbury and Becky Harries have also been added to the line-up. "I know Conwy very well indeed and I could hardly have a top event closer to home," said Llandudno's Boulden, 16. "Hopefully that will prove an advantage and it will be more relaxed to be able to live at home and travel the short distance to play. "It will also be great to see so many other Welsh players - Breanne, Sahra and Rhian have all been in Wales teams when I was coming up through the system, while Becky has also spent quite a lot of time with the Wales set-up passing on tips and advice." The tournament has never been won by a Welsh player. | You've got to miss the gorse bushes Defending champion Karen Stupples |
Kent's Karen Stupples will be back to defend the title she won in Harlech last year, looking to secure the £45,000 winners cheque from a total prize fund of £300,000. "I think here, it is going to play a lot tougher because of the gorse and it's very fortified with bunkers off the tee shots and things," she said. "It's potentially a more strategic golf course. "You've got to strike the ball extremely well and try and make as few mistakes as possible. "You want to avoid the fairway bunkers at all costs, because that's guaranteed a dropped shot. "You've got to miss the gorse bushes: that's guaranteed a dropped shot. If you can do that you'll have a pretty good week." Stupples will play with local favourite Brewerton, from Abergele, and Australian Karen Lunn for the first two rounds. *Watch highlights on Tuesday, 17 August, BBC TWO Wales, 2320-0005 BST
