Londoner Brian Davis was a shot behind leader Jim Furyk after round three of the Verizon Heritage at Hilton Head as compatriot Greg Owen faded.

Owen had held a share of the lead at the close on Friday but shot a two-over 73 to plunge six strokes off the pace.

Davis, by contrast, hit a flawless five-under 66 to remain in touch with Furyk, who stands 11 under overall.

Davis's fellow Englishman Luke Donald is in a group of seven players one shot further back, after a third-round 67.

American Furyk also carded a 67, his second of the tournament while Donald is joined by two-time Verizon winner Boo Weekley, Stephen Ames, Briny Baird, Ricky Barnes, Woody Austin and Heath Slocum a shot behind Davis.

606: DEBATE

Charles Howell, who had held the lead alongside Furyk and Owen after two rounds, suffered a similar fate to the Englishman to end up tied for 24th place alongside him at Hilton Head.

"It's just a different feel this week, so bunched and it's going to give guys probably three or four shots back tomorrow a great chance," said Davis.

"Tomorrow, it's go out and shoot as low as you can and not take your foot off the gas pedal."
