Owen has missed the cut five times on the PGA Tour this season |
England's Greg Owen moved into a three-way tie for the lead after Friday's second round of the Verizon Heritage tournament lead in South Carolina. Owen made four birdies as he went round in 69 to join Americans Jim Furyk and Charles Howell at the top of the leaderboard on seven under par. Fellow Englishman Paul Casey hit a superb 65 to make the cut at two under after his opening round of 75. Compatriots Brian Davis and Luke Donald are well placed at five under par. Scotland's Martin Laird made an early bogey and double bogey, but hit back with five birdies to move to four under for the tournament. | 606: DEBATE |
Overnight leader KJ Choi fell back with a 74, while Spain's Sergio Garcia followed his opening 67 with a disastrous 77 that saw him miss the cut by two strokes. Florida-based Owen was delighted to make the cut at Hilton Head after failing to do so at five of his eight PGA starts this season. "It's been a while since I played on a Saturday, I'm just trying to play well," he said. "I've been feeling great this week. It's nice to start playing well, and I love coming here. "The putter is behaving itself so far this week. The wind picked up and made it tough this afternoon, but all in all I played some nice golf."
