Kim recovered after a poor start with a string of birdies in the closing holes |
Anthony Kim joined fellow American Bryce Molder at the top of the leaderboard with a third-round 69 at the Houston Open. Kim dropped two shots in the opening three holes but got one back at the 5th and made four birdies in the last seven holes to finish the day on 10 under. Americans Joe Ogilvie and Vaughn Taylor share second place two strokes back. England's Lee Westwood could only manage a par 72 to join a group of three players on seven under. Westwood finished his front nine with a double bogey, par, bogey and triple bogey to go out in 41 and did well to get back on track with five birdies on the homeward nine. Ireland's Padraig Harrington is a shot further back after he also went round in 72. Former Open champion Justin Leonard and South Africa's Charl Schwartzel had the rounds of the day, both carding 67 to move to join Harrington on six under. Australian Cameron Percy and American Alex Prugh had been in a share for second over night but both went backwards, with Percy shooting 74 and Prugh 76. Phil Mickelson, who survived the halfway cut by a single stroke following an errant 76, actually had more bogeys than in round two but there were five birdies and no horrific triple bogeys for the former Masters champion, who moved back under par. But Ernie Els, who has won the last two tournaments on the US Tour in an encouraging return to form, had two double bogeys in his 75 and dropped to three-over.
