An outstanding final-round 67 saw Johnson to her maiden win |
Birmingham's Felicity Johnson secured her first Ladies European Tour win, beating Becky Brewerton in Tenerife. The 22-year-old shot a final round of 67 to finish at 14 under, two shots ahead of Abergele's Brewerton, who had led after the second and third days. "It's all a bit surreal at the moment but I've worked so hard for it," said Johnson, who closed with two birdies. Brewerton's closing 72 left her alone in second place, five ahead of third-placed Bettina Hauert of Germany. "It's just fantastic that it's finally come together for me," said third-year Tour professional Johnson, who earned 45,000 euros. | 606: DEBATE |
"I hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens and made a couple of good up and downs early on which kept the pars on the card. "I just hit one bad shot to 14 and made a bogey there, but apart from that I played really solid golf again. "I hit a really good shot into 15 which hit the flag, so that was pleasing. "I holed a really good putt on 17 from 25 foot or so which gave me the boost I needed at the last." Johnson had recorded two top-10s on the circuit this year, with her season-best a tie for third at the SAS Ladies Masters in Norway. "I led after the first round in Gothenburg last year and I've finished third four times so it was a matter of putting the icing on the cake really," she added.
