Casey in the highest-ranked Briton in golf's world rankings |
Britain's Paul Casey has withdrawn from this week's Deutsche Bank Championship after failing to recover from a persistent rib problem. The world number three made his decision on Wednesday after hitting nothing more than a sand wedge on the practice range at the course in Boston. The injury forced the 32-year-old to withdraw from last month's USPGA and the Barclays event in New Jersey "It has been a really frustrating few weeks," said Casey. "But the injury has been responding to treatment and that should hopefully allow me to return to action. "I will continue the treatment this week and prepare for the final play-off events." Casey recorded his biggest win of his career, the PGA Championship, which elevated his world ranking to third. The Cheltenham golfer suffered the initial problem before the Open in July, and was also forced to pull out of the World Golf Championships after six holes.
