Britain's Justin Rose is one shot off the lead at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro after carding a five-under- par 65 in his first round. The Englishman could have taken the overnight lead but a three-putt bogey at the 18th left him trailing Brandt Snedeker, Chez Reavie and Ryan Moore. Only half the field completed their first round on the opening day after a four-hour delay because of heavy rain. Chris Riley, five-under after 14 holes, was top of those unable to finish. Rose joined American's Kevin Streelman and Colt Knost tied in second place at Sedgefield Country Club. Eight players returned three-under-par rounds of 66 with Fred Couples and John Daly among them. | 606: DEBATE |
Snedeker, who cracked a rib during the Masters in April and was subsequently ruled him out for seven weeks, said prior to the tournament he was in good form and the American was happy to prove it on Thursday. "I was excited coming in this week. I knew I was playing good," said Snedeker, who won the event two years ago at a different course. "I putted great today and hit a lot of really great iron shots. "My driver left me for five or six holes but I was able to make a bunch of pars and get away with it."
