Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie missed the cut at the Italian Open in Turin as Argentine Daniel Vancsik moved into a one-shot lead.

The 45-year-old Montgomerie bogeyed the final two holes to crash out just as he did in the Spanish Open a week ago.

"I should not be missing cuts in these tournaments," said Montgomerie.

First-round pacesetter Gareth Maybin from Northern Ireland is one shot off the lead having fired a one-under-par 70 in Friday's second round.

Vancsik added a 65 to his opening 68 to go nine under.

"You need to play well for four rounds - if it is only for three then it won't happen," said Vancsik.

"I'm working on hitting the driver straighter. Hitting it long is OK, but you need to put it on the fairway."

England's Anthony Wall, Icelander Birgir Hafthorsson and Finland's Kakko Roope are in joint third place on seven under.

Scotland's Richie Ramsay and English pair Marcus Higley and Robert Rock are a stroke further back.

However, Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke also missed the cut.
