Montgomerie could not maintain the form of his first round |
Colin Montgomerie said his game was "completely out of sync" after slipping down the leaderboard on day two of the Andalucian Open in Seville. The Scot, playing in his 500th European Tour event as a professional, was one shot off the lead after the first day. But he could only manage a level-par 72 on Friday and, stuck on his overnight five under, was four shots behind new leader Marcel Siem of Germany. "I played very badly and 72 is what you get when you play that way," he said. England's Graeme Storm was tied for second with France's Jean-Francois Lucquin after a fine round of 66. Storm is happy to be finding his form again after having his clubs stolen in Dubai last month. | 606: DEBATE |
"I was watching Liverpool against Chelsea on television," he explained. "At 10.30pm they were still there and at 10.45 gone. "I put in a police report, but somebody is enjoying playing with them in the sunshine in Dubai. "There was a two-iron I'd had for years, a lob wedge specially made for me and a new driver that I loved. It was a massive loss." Siem fired a five-under 67 to take his one-shot lead, a round which included eight birdies. Scotland's first-round leader Chris Doak is in a share of 11th place after slumping to a second-round 73. Two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, trying to gauge his fitness for next month's Augusta event after spending two years battling against rheumatism, missed the cut on four-over 148. "It wasn't my health, I just played badly, simple as that," said the Spaniard. "If I have no setbacks I will go there (Augusta). It's a special place."
