Faldo's last appearance was at the same event a year ago

Nick Faldo will compete in his first European Tour event for more than a year at the Hong Kong Open on Thursday.

The 51-year-old was heavily criticised after captaining Europe to their first Ryder Cup defeat in nine years at Valhalla in September.

"What's been said has been said, so we've moved on. We're two months on now," the Englishman said.

"If somewhere down the line there's another opportunity to be captain, I would seriously consider it."

Faldo, whose last competitive appearance was at the same event a year ago, stressed that his regular playing days were now behind him.

He said: "I don't miss it now. I'm 51, so I'm quite happy. I had my playing days and I've moved on to do other things.

"I haven't played since last year competitively and I think I'm struggling to get 10 rounds of golf and probably 10 hours of practice.

"It's been a busy year this year obviously with television and Ryder Cup but I'm glad to be back out on the golf course for a bit of fun this week."

The Hong Kong Open is the second-counting event for the European Tour's inaugural Race to Dubai.

The top 60 in the Race to Dubai qualify for the Dubai World Championship, which has a lucrative prize fund of �5.6m and a first prize of �2m.

Faldo believes the event will herald an exhilarating new era for European golf.

"It is very exciting. It's given Europe an opportunity from October, November and December to have a short window in the world of golf, and they have taken advantage of that. I think it should be a great event."
