Swede Sorenstam, 38, will retire at the end of the season

Annika Sorenstam secured the 89th title of her illustrious career by beating Li Ying Ye in a sudden death play-off at the Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China.

Five strokes behind Ye overnight, the Swede shot a final round seven-under 65 for a three-round total of 13 under.

Both players birdied the first play-off hole but Sorenstam sealed win when Ye missed a short putt at the second.

World number three Sorenstam, 38, now has four tour wins in what is her final season before retirement.

"Ye played well throughout the tournament and it was difficult to play the catch-up game with her until I managed to draw level at the 15th hole," said Sorenstam, who shot eight birdies and one bogey in the final round.

"I tried my best to apply the pressure on her but she never succumbed to it and I thought anything could happen in the play-off. This is my 89th career win and I'm so happy."

Candie Kung of Taiwan shot a final-round 69 to win the LPGA Tour Hana Bank Championship by a stroke from Australia's Katherine Hull in Incheon, South Korea.
