Westwood finished second at the British Masters at the Belfry |
Four Nottinghamshire players have got underway in golf's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, in Scotland. The tournament is unique on the European Tour - it is played across three courses and pairs golf pros with celebrity partners. Lee Westwood will play with his manager Andrew Chandler, while Oliver Wilson pairs up with Huey Lewis. Greg Owen and John Angelo face Stephen Gallacher and former US Vice President Dan Quayle in their first round. Mark Foster teams up with John Mahony, an Irish businessman who won the Irish Boys golf title in 1975. The tournament runs two competitions simultaneously: the professionals are part of an individual tournament, which is part of the European tour, while also competing in a team competition with their celebrity partners. Each pro will play 18 holes on each of the three courses - St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns - before the cut is made a day later than usual on Saturday. The cut will keep the leading 60 individual professionals, as well as the 20 top teams after the third round. Westwood and Chandler face Paul McGinley and South African stockbroker Rurik Gobel, while Wilson and Lewis' opponents are Justin Rose and retired footballer Jamie Redknapp. Foster and Mahoney are in action against the pairing of Tom Whitehouse and Gerry O'Connor.
