Jersey claim 21st Inter Island win |
Jersey won the 41st meeting of the Inter Island golf match at Royal Jersey Golf Club Sunday. The resounding 15-5 victory, their fifth consecutive means they have 21 wins, with Guernsey 18 with two drawn. "The team certainly delivered especially on Sunday, they played absolutely fantastic golf," said Jersey captain Steven Bowen. "We ended up fairly convincing winners but it certainly didn't feel as wide a margin as it was." Jersey went into Sunday's second day with a slim 3-2 lead after Saturday's foursomes; Gavin O'Neill and Matthew Parkman the stars with an 8 and 6 demolition of Nigel Vaudin and Mick Marley. In Sunday's four-ball section Jersey continued their great form taking the matches 4-1 to take a 7-3 lead with the 10 singles matches to come. Jersey continued their dominance with eight more wins in the singles to finish with points. Team captain Bowen feels Guernsey will have a hard time winning the trophy back: "It's fantastic to continue our good run, what we need to do now is get our heads down and make sure we continue this great run."
