Lee Westwood has pulled out of the European Masters in Switzerland this week due to a bout of tonsillitis.

The Worksop golfer may also be unable to complete his build-up for the Ryder Cup on the European Tour in Cologne, Germany next week.

The 35-year-old had not entered the German Masters but asked to play after having an unexpected week off.

The event has a restricted field of 78 and has just six invitational places which have already been allocated.
