Sorenstam has won 10 majors during her illustrious career |
Amy Yang spoiled Annika Sorenstam's finale on home turf by equalling the course record with a nine-under 63 for a six-shot win at the Scandinavian TPC. The 37-year-old Sorenstam, who is retiring in December, eagled the 17th to move into second behind the Korean. But she double-bogeyed the last after hitting her tee shot in the water and three-putting to finish joint sixth. However, she enjoyed her farewell, saying: "I enjoyed seeing the fans applauding when I went up the 18th." Yang, 19, tied the course record set earlier in the day by Minea Blomqvist of Finland, who shared second with Melodie Bourdy of France, Lill Saether of Norway (73) and Maria Hjorth of Sweden. Sorenstam, who has won the title six times, closed with a 72 for a seven-under total of 209, seven shots behind Yang, in the rain-affected tournament in Stockholm. Winner of 10 majors and 72 LPGA titles, Sorenstam is quitting the game after this season to get married, start a family and focus on her business and other golf interests. "Naturally it was special to walk out there," she added. "I knew this was my last tournament in Sweden. I'm enormously thankful for the fans' support this week." Sorenstam will make her final competitive appearance in Europe in Denmark from 5-7 September before making her last start at the Dubai Ladies Masters on 11-14 December. Johanna Head and Lora Fairclough were the best-placed Britons on five under.
