2330: Play is officially suspended for the day after a delay of more than four hours because of thunderstorms over Oakland Hills. See you tomorrow, folks. It's going to be along one. Bring your A games.

"Anyone feel the urge to sing "Ah, ahhhh" when they hear the name Flesch ?"
Rodilite, Leeds, via email

2320: Ryder Cup game answers:

"Darren Clarke is another great team player but might too be far down rankings or McDowell doing well now at this moment."
Leigh Brett, Ireland via email

"Excellent game.... On the proviso that he stops shooting scores in the 80's Monty has to be one. Come sunday I know Team USA won't want to see his name in the line up. Poulter an obvious choice as the 2nd."
In Sir Colin we trust, UK, via email

"Surely one of the the wild cards has to be Montgomerie. He has been the best European Ryder Cup player for years."
David Staniforth, England, via email

"Ryder Cup demands big game players. step up Monty!"
Heath, Canada, via email

"Following 2006, Clarke is the new talisman, so no place for Monty. I'd also pick Casey, mainly so we can all reminisce about his earlier remarks about the USA and its people."
It's not "in the hole", is it?, Scotland, via email

"Do we need to worry about the Ryder Cup this time? Have you seen the American team? HAVE YOU HEARD OF ANY OF THEM??!!!! I say pick Monty Panesar and Ronnie Corbett. We'll have it full of Champagne by the second afternoon. Sorted.
Marc , Ingerlund, via email

By the way, I know there are flaws in the game, as we don't know whose spot Garcia would take, but just work with me will you...

2300: How about this for a quick game? Let's assume Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose make the Ryder Cup team by right. Who are your wildcards, right here, right now?

I'll kick off with Poulter and....I think I'm going to have to say Casey. You see, I'm hesitating because despite his flop here, I still think Monty brings a hell of a lot to the event. Casey might well play himself in, too. But that's not the game.

"By the way, I'm not really an assistant to any manager, it's just a quote from The Office."
Assistant to the Regional Manager, England, via email

Thought as much Assistant, I was joshing with you.

2255: "I still think Garcia will win. I just have this feeling this is going to be his major."
ManUnited2008 on 606

"Right now, I think Romero will be the happiest out of everyone. Safe in the clubhouse, 6 shots ahead of the next best clubhouse score."
Assistant to the Regional Manager on 606

You said it, assistant. By the way, does the Regional Manager know you're on here?

2247: Hot news - greens staff are out on the course, raking bunkers, squeegying (is that right?) fairways and generally looking busy. This could mean...gaaalf!

2240: "Phil Mickelson will win the tournament, fantastic short game will prove vital."
Lee from Warrington via text

"Someone will rip it up, the soft greens will turn it into a shootout, if it ever gets going. My money would be on Sergio or Curtis or Holmes or Rose."
Gav via text

2210: "Padraig Harrington is the dark horse of the tournament and the best putter in the world..."
SirBenson23 on 606

2150: "Aaron Baddeley is the dark horse for this tournament. He's playing good golf and is a great putter."
GJ the Aussie Stud on 606

No surprises there then, GJ!

"Stenson to win I think, but hopefully Justin cements Ryder Cup qualification with a top 5. It's great to see him back in form again."
Assistant to the Regional Manager on 606.

2140: "Who do you think will win from here?" asks Assistant to the Regional Manager on 606.

Right now, I'm going to plump for Ben Curtis. Let's face it, you could pick loads of them, but he's won a major, he now feels that he belongs and believes he can win another, and he's playing well.

Anyone with me? If not, who do you pick?

By they way, the proposed restart at 2200 BST has now been officially delayed again. The players are sent back off the range. It is very dark overhead.

2130: They're still off. But wait...

"5.00 p.m. (2200 BST) resumption announced by CBS."
Kwiniaskagolfer on 606

2040: BBC Radio 5 Live golf correspondent Iain Carter reports that play may be suspended for up to three hours. That's not good. No, that's not good at all.

2030: The players scuttle off the range as the wind gusts and a new storm system blows in.

1950: The sun is out and players have been allowed back on the practice ground but there are worries there's another storm system on its way so play has not yet re-started.

JB Holmes, Justin Rose, Ben Curtis, Charlie Wi, Henrik Stenson and David Toms are the players yet to tee off.

1917: Thunderstorms above Oakland Hills force a suspension. Players may finish the shot they were on.

1915: Phil Mickelson drives to about 15ft on the short par-four 6th. Padraig Harrington birdies the 9th to inch to four over.

1910: Andres Romero finishes with a 65 for two over. At the other end, Sergio Garcia pars the first. Graeme McDowell bogeys 16 to slip back to three over.

1900: American Steve Flesch, playing alongside Phil Mickelson, moves to one over with a second birdie in his first four holes. Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson is going along well at three under for the day, three over for the tournament.

1850: Camilo Villegas birdies 11 and 12 to climb to one over, that's just two off the lead.

1840: Padraig Harrington birdies the 6th to get back to five over, while Andres Romero birdies 16 to get back to two over. Prayad Marksaeng drops a shot at 14 to go back to three over.

1830: Paul Casey drops another shot at the 11th to slide to eight over, while Andres Romero drops one on 15 to drop to three over and Ian Poulter gets back to five over with a birdie on six.

1824: Graeme McDowell slides in an eagle on 12 to get to three over. He then almost holes his drive on 13 but settles for another birdie.

Retief Goosen makes amends for two straight bogeys with a birdie on the 9th to get back to five over.

1820: Phil Mickelson is having an adventurous start to his third round. He bombs his drive miles down the middle but chunks his pitch into the bunker, splashes out into the fluffy fringe, chips to within about four feet and makes the putt for bogey to slide to four over.

1815: In answer to my question of whether you would take a 70 if you were Justin Rose, Assitant to the Regional Manager on 606 replied, "1000% yes".

Fair enough. But how far down the board would you go before you wouldn't take level par at the start?

Andres Romero climbs to two over after yet another birdie, this time at the 14th.

1810: Phil Mickelson spanks one down the 1st to cries of "Oh yeah" and "Beauty". At least it wasn't the dreaded you-know-what.

1805: Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng is now the best-placed player on course at two over for the tournament after another birdie at the 10th. That's just three off the lead.

Jim Furyk, who birdied 18 on Friday to make the cut on the number, gets round in a level-par 70.

1800: Ian Poulter makes a long 'un at the 4th to get back to level for the day, five over overall.

1755: Scotland's Alastair Forsyth is another player making progress as he edges to four over with a birdie at the 2nd.

1750: Ernie Els leaves his tee shot short at the driveable par-four 6th and can only hack out of the thick rough to the front fringe. He chips to about eight feet and misses the putt for bogey to slip to six over.

Playing partner Retief Goosen drives the green and leaves himself a tap-in for birdie to get to four over.

Padraig Harrington makes up for missing a short one at the 1st with a birdie at the 2nd to get back to five over.

1730: Retief Goosen picks up another birdie to get to four over, as does Anthony Kim. Graeme McDowell drains a long putt on the 8th to creep to four over.

Here's a question for you - If you were, say, Justin Rose, would you take level-par 70 now?. What if you were Sergio?

1725: Nice pair of red and white checked Rupert the Bear strides for Ian Poulter today. Very smart.

And let's forget all this clothes horse stuff. Did you never see Nicklaus or Watson in flapping, multi-coloured slacks? (And no, I'm not saying he's in their league as a player, just that they've got the same sartorial tendencies). He doubles the 1st, mind.

1720: "Big weekend for Justin Rose - a chance to silence the critics, convince the sceptics, make Ryder Cup qualification a formality...or reinforce all the negative characterisations about him."
Kwiniaskagolfer on 606

Andres Romero is so hot it hurts as he birdies the 10th to get to three over.

1715: Andres Romero is the hottest property at Oakland Hills right now as he surges to four over with a three -under front nine of 32. And just as I finish typing that, Camilo Villegas edges to three over with a third birdie.

1705: Ernie Els and Retief Goosen both birdie the 2nd to edge to five over. Graeme McDowell birdies the 6th to climb to four over.

1700: Despite Paul Casey's assertion that anyone can still win it, a couple of players who probably can't are Richard Green (79) and Chez Reavie (78), who are now 17 and 16 over respectively. Casey, by the way, is one over after three holes, three over for the tournament.

1655: Looks like there might be a score out there early on in the third round. The highest movers on course so far are Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng and Colombia's Camilo Villegas at two under for the day, four over for the tournament.

Andres Romero and Graeme McDowell are also under par for the day, and five over for the tournament.

1645: Afternoon golf fans. Welcome to day three of the USPGA Championship at Oakland Hills. The course they call the "monster" has bared its teeth over the past two days and given some pretty savage maulings to some of the game's best players.

But JB Holmes, Justin Rose, Ben Curtis and Charlie Wi tamed the monster and will be looking to push on today.

Paul Casey reckons anyone who made the cut, which came at eight over, is still in with a shout of winning so the old adage of "moving day" has never been more apt, particularly with bad weather expected.

Those who best accept the course and conditions for what they are will prosper. But get ready for a war of attrition.
