Wilson has never played in the Ryder Cup before |
Mansfield golfer Oliver Wilson is hoping to use this week's US PGA Championship to cement his place in Europe's Ryder Cup team. The 27-year-old is currently in line for a spot in Nick Faldo's side for the match against the USA in September. He told the BBC: "It's a hot topic at the moment. It'd be nice to win before the Ryder Cup and take care of things." The US PGA debutant added: "It'd be nice to be in contention this week and sew that place up." The Coxmoor-based professional has had four second-placed finishes this season to put himself on the verge of selection. He said: "I'm thinking about it every day. It's something I've always wanted to be part of and I'm trying to grab the opportunity with both hands. "I may never have another chance to play it, so I've got to give it everything I have and try and make it this time."
