Alfredsson has won 19 tournaments in her career

Sweden's Helen Alfredsson warmed up for next week's British Women's Open by winning the prestigious Evian Masters in France in a sudden death play-off.

The 2007 Solheim Cup captain birdied the final two holes for a 67 to force her way into a play-off on 15 under par against Angela Park and Na-Yeon Choi.

The 43-year-old, who clinched the title at the third extra hole, said: "It's great to be a three-time winner."

British Women's Open champion Lorena Ochoa came fifth behind Jin Joo Hong.

World number one Ochoa, from Mexico, shot a 68 to move up the leaderboard while Hong carded a 67 to take fourth.

Two-time former winner Annika Sorenstam, in her final Evian Masters before retirement, also shot 68 for seven under.

Wales' Becky Brewerton was the top Briton in joint 24th after a final-round 68 but two-time winner Laura Davies slumped to last of the 70 qualifiers after a dismal 80.

Alfredsson, who won the inaugural Evian title in 1994 and then again in 1998, has suffered a string of injuries over the years and last won a title in 2003.

But she showed great form last month with a second place in the US Women's Open and her experience came to the fore in the play-off.

The 19-year-old Brazilian Park, who had led going into the final round, went out when she could only make par at the first extra hole, and 21-year-old South Korean Choi missed a six-foot birdie putt to leave Alfredsson two putts to win at the third.
