Khan tied with 12 other players on 16-over par |
Essex golfer Simon Khan has said he was disappointed with his final-round score at the Open at Royal Birkdale. The 36-year-old hit a round of 76 which left him tied in 39th place on 16-over par, 14 shots off the winner, Irishman Padraig Harrington. "I'm delighted to have been here but I just felt there was a good opportunity for a good score," Khan admitted. "That would have been somewhere around par and I felt I could have done that so I'm disappointed." Khan's tournament began with a round of 77 before a 71 on Friday saw him make the cut, he followed up with the same score on Saturday. | I missed maybe five puts of six foot and under, and you've got to hole those puts |
In a championship in which any score close to the course par of 70 was an achievement, Khan was left frustrated at not being able to take advantage of some fine approach play during his Sunday round. "It was tricky [conditions], so it was hard to get the ball close and hard to make birdies," he said. "I felt that I played a lot better than that [score of 76], I hit the hole a couple of times but nothing happened for me today and I didn't hole out. "I missed maybe five puts of six foot and under and you've got to hole those puts, If I had holed those I would have shot around par so I'm a bit gutted."
