 Jonathan Caldwell won both his matches on Friday |
Defending champions Ireland qualified for the final of the European Team Championship in Turin by defeating Germany 5-2 in Friday's semi-finals. Ulster players Jonathan Caldwell and Paul Cutler won their morning foursomes 2&1 and Lurgan's Gareth Shaw and Shane Lowry claimed a 5&4 victory. Cutler (5&3) and Caldwell (3&2) claimed afternoon singles wins while Shaw and Paul O'Hanlon both earned halves. The Irish will play England in Saturday's final. England claimed a 5-2 victory over France in Friday's other semi-final. Shane Lowry was the only Irish singles loser on Friday afternoon as he was beaten 5&4 by Allen John.
