David Lynn fired seven birdies on the way to his second round 65 |
Englishman David Lynn shares the lead with Pablo Larrazabal after a second round 65 left him on seven under par on day two of the French Open. But Peter Lawrie, Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood are just two shots behind in Paris, with Angel Cabrera along with Ignacio Garrido also five under. Lynn hit seven birdies and one bogey on a fine day with Larrazabal only adding a single shot to his first round 65. Ian Poulter survived the cut by a shot repeating his first round 72. Montgomerie birdied the final two holes of his second round to finish with a 68 and the Scot is confident of adding to his previous 31 European Tour victories. "If I can be patient I have a chance," he said. "I had 16 holes of utter, utter frustration and I hate to say the birdies were deserved, but the way I played that was the minimum I deserved. "It was as good as I can play tee-to-green. It was back to the way I won tournaments." Lynn holed a shot from the bunker on the last to secure his share of the lead. "I was so frustrated when I finished with a seven on the ninth yesterday," he said. "But I knew I was playing well and the wind died the last few holes." Welsh trio Bradley Dredge, Stephen Dodd and Phillip Price all missed the cut, as did Darren Clarke. As a result of his early exit, Clarke will be at the 36-hole Open qualifying at Sunningdale on Monday. Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen and Thai Chapchai Nirat both had holes-in-one. But because Derksen's came at the 175-yard 16th rather than 210-yard second he was the one to win a BMW car. He still missed the cut, however.
