Jonathan Caldwell failed to reach the last eight at Turnberry

Jonathan Caldwell has failed to claim a place in the last eight at the British Amateur Championship at Turnberry.

Caldwell lost to Tommy Fleetwood of Formby at the 20th hole of his last-16 match on Thursday afternoon.

The Clandeboye player had been in excellent form in defeating Holland's Floris De Vries 5&3 in the second round of matchplay on Thursday morning.

Lurgan's Gareth Shaw is out of the competiton after losing 3&2 to Jorge Campillo of Spain.
