Gareth Shaw eased into the second round of matchplay

Ulster pair Jonathan Caldwell and Gareth Shaw cruised to victories in the last 64 stage of the British Amateur Championship at Turnberry on Wednesday.

Clandeboye player Caldwell beat Dunbar's Alexander Culverwell 4&3 while Shaw of Lurgan defeated South African Jacques Blaauw, also by 4&3.

Caldwell faces Holland's Floris De Vries on Thursday morning while Shaw takes on Jorge Campillo of Spain.

Portstewart's Paul Cutler failed to make the matchplay stages.
