Only 15 players finished under par after three rounds |
Tim Clark surged into a two shot lead after a bogey-free third round of 64 at the Stanford St Jude Championship. The South African, who started the day one over par, shot an eagle and three birdies in the final five holes, leaving him on five under overall. Trevor Immelman, Marc Turnesa, Bill Haas, Alex Cejka and Gavin Coles share second place on three under in Memphis. Vijay Singh was among a quartet a further shot behind after the Fijian carded a 70 for two under. Singh was joined by Justin Leonard (67), Dean Wilson (71) and Stephen Ames (68) in Tennessee. The wind, which had hampered golfers during the first two rounds, eased up a little but with greens firming up in the searing heat, only 15 players finished under par after 54 holes. Clark will play in Sunday's final round with compatriot and Masters champion Trevor Immelman, who missed a chance to share the lead after he bogeyed the last to finish with a 67. Immelman was however pleased with his performance. "I played well," he said. "I played great yesterday (Friday), which gave me some confidence in my long game, and I had it going again. "All in all, I actually managed my game quite well and I've got a chance. That's all I can ask for."
