England's Karen Stupples shot a five-under-par 67 to move into fifth place at the halfway stage of the Tournament of Champions in Alabama.

The 34-year-old lies seven shots behind American leader Paula Creamer, who took a five-stroke lead to move 12-under.

Stupples gave birth to her first child, Logan, in April and this is only her eighth tournament of the year.

But the Kent star shrugged off any rustiness with six birdies, including a 30ft chip-in at the par four 15th.

Stupples, the 2004 Women's British Open Champion and two-time LPGA Tour winner, said: "My short game, and particularly my wedge play, has suffered since the baby came along.

"But I've worked hard and it's great to be back playing well in this company."

Creamer, 21, carded a best of day 65 to lead from South Korea's Jin Joo Hong, who had a 67 for seven-under.

Swede Annika Sorenstam (67) and American Pat Hurst (67) tie for third on six-under.

Mexico's world number one Lorena Ochoa, who won by 10 shots last year, followed a disappointing 74 with a 69 to stand on one-under and just outside the top 10.

Scotland's Catriona Matthew, was tied for 17th on two-over-par after a second successive 73.
