Woods begins play-offs campaign
Tiger Woods
Woods beat Singh by two strokes at last year's Deutsche Bank
Tiger Woods makes his entry into the PGA Tour's new season-ending play-off series this weekend as he defends his Deutsche Bank Classic in Boston.

Woods missed last week's Barclays Championship, the first of four events in the new FedEx Cup series.

It saw him drop from first to fourth in the overall points standings.

But Woods said: "I know I've slipped back in the standings, but there's plenty of points out there. I feel recharged for the next five weeks."

Last week's Barclays featured 144 players, which has now been whittled down to 120 for the Deutsche Bank event.

And the top 70 players this week will advance to the BMW Championship in Chicago. After that, the top 30 progress to the Tour Championship in Atlanta, between 13-16 September.

But the winner of the FedEx Cup, and a $10m bonus, will be the player with the most points at the end of the series, putting the emphasis on overall results.

Vijay Singh started the Barclays last week just 1,000 points behind Woods at the top of the Cup standings, but he missed the cut and slid to sixth.

Steve Stricker shot to the top of the standings with his Barclays victory, 2,050 points ahead of South Korean KJ Choi.
