PGA announces new look for Tour
The PGA Tour's inaugural FedEx Cup schedule, which ends with a four-event Championship Series, has been unveiled.

The points-based competition will span 37 weeks from the Mercedes Championship in Hawaii (4-7 Jan) to the Tour Championship in Atlanta (13-16 Sept).

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said: "The FedEx Cup schedule (will) maximise the strength of our events, sponsors and venues."

It follows a radical shake-up of the PGA Tour which began last November.

The Tour has been under pressure from advertisers to bolster faltering late-season television ratings.

Finchem has focused on a tighter schedule and some badly needed credibility for the season-ending Tour Championship, which will be brought forward by six weeks.

Although the four majors will continue to represent the pinnacle of the game, the FedEx Cup is designed to highlight the latter portion of the PGA Tour.

The Cup will lead into a late US summer play-off of three blockbuster events culminating with the Tour Championship in September.

The Championship Series will begin with the Barclays Classic in New York (23-26 August) followed by the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston (31 Aug-3 Sept) and the Championship Series/Chicago from (6-9 September).
