Cutler edged out in decider
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy was aiming for his third successive win in the event
Portstewart's Paul Cutler was beaten on the final hole in Tuesday afternoon's West of Ireland amateur championship final at Rosses Point.

Galway player Joe Lyons birdied the 18th to secure a one hole victory over the young Ulsterman.

Cutler made the decider by defeating Tommy McGowan at the 20th hole on Tuesday morning.

He had earlier disposed of reigning champion Rory McIlroy in the last eight of the tournament.

Lyons defeated Simon Ward 2&1 in their last four encounter.

Richard Kilptarick lost to Ward in the quarter-finals while fellow Ulster competitors Rory Leonard and Darren Crowe went out at the last 16 stage.
