Swede Henrik Stenson birdied two of his final three holes to claim a share of the lead after the first round at the WGC-CA Championship in Miami.

The 30-year-old is tied with Australian Robert Allenby after they both carded rounds of five-under-par 67.

Dane Thomas Bjorn lies one back, while Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal shares fourth spot with Australian Aaron Baddeley and American Charles Howell.

World number one Tiger Woods is one of seven players on one under.

Stenson, who teed off at the 10th, set up his sixth birdie of the day with a massive 335-yard drive at the par-four 7th before rolling in a five-footer.

The 30-year-old picked up another shot at the par-five 8th, where he laid up in two and pitched to 14 feet, before signing off with a par at the last.

"The swing was not 100%, but my short game and putting were on and I managed to take the chances when I got them," he said.

"Europe has been producing a lot of good players and maybe the conditions we were playing in were more in our favour - I guess we might be a little bit more used to playing in windy and tough conditions.

"My game feels good and when I go out at the moment I seem to be able to bring it in around par or better. I feel like my low level is higher than it's been before."

World number three Phil Mickelson slumped to a five-over 77, one shot back from England's Paul Casey and Colin Montgomerie.

Playing with Mickelson, Ireland's Padraig Harrington finished one over, level with England's Paul Broadhurst and Ian Poulter, while compatriots Luke Donald and David Howell carded 74s.

Defending champion Woods faded after making a bright start. He birdied the first two holes before bogeying the 18th to reach the turn in one-under 35.

Although he picked up his third shot at the par-five 1st, he missed a six-footer to bogey the 3rd and failed to make any further moves over the closing holes.

Woods has won at this course on his last two visits but struggled on relaid greens and described his putting as "pathetic".

"It's just weird out there in the sense that I putt a lot by memory and what I've done here over the years," he said.

"A couple of the putts did the exact opposite than what they used to do. But that's just that the grain has not got time to settle in yet."
