Casey believes the tricky conditions will favour the Europeans this week |
Paul Casey believes conditions at this week's WGC-CA event in Florida will suit the European challengers. Wind and sporadic rain have been forecast over the next four days and the rough at Doral's Blue Course has been allowed to grow to three inches.
"It's very tough and I think tough golf courses are good," said Casey.
"The Europeans who are here have played enough tough golf courses and they play in wind, so I don't see why we should write off any Europeans this week."
Casey expects the firm greens to be particularly challenging.

"You can put a lot of spin on the ball but, for some reason, the green just doesn't want to take the spin and it's very difficult to get it close to the pin around here," he said.
"This is true Florida golf as far as I'm concerned. It's thick Bermuda (grass), thick grain, strong wind."
There are 17 Europeans in the 73-strong field for the second World Golf Championship (WGC) event of the year.
They include England's Luke Donald, the Republic of Ireland's Padraig Harrington, Spaniards Sergio Garcia and Jose Maria Olazabal and Sweden's Henrik Stenson.
"It seems it's going to be quite windy like it's been the last couple of days," said Garcia.
"The greens are firm and the ball kind of nestles down quite a bit in the rough. The course is not playing easy.
"I think it's going to be a totally different tournament than we're used to seeing here and I'm looking forward to it."
Tiger Woods has won the last two titles at Doral with a combined total of 44 under par, but nobody expects similar low scoring this time round.
Woods has won the tournament five times in its seven editions, with Mike Weir taking the 2000 title and Ernie Els winning in 2004.
