Darren Clarke started the year 35th in the world rankings |
Darren Clarke's struggles continued as he missed the cut after carding a four-over-par 74 in the second round of the Travelers Championship in the US. Clarke had seven bogeys and ended five shots adrift of the halfway cut-off.
The Northern Ireland man, now outside the top 100 in the world rankings, has pulled out of next week's French Open after opting to stay in the US.
Clarke, who will also miss the European Open at the K Club, needs to play 15 US events to keep his PGA Tour membership.
Padraig Harrington made the cut by two strokes after a second-round 68.
US Open champion Angel Cabrera and last year's European Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam have also pulled out of the French Open.
Woosnam has pulled out of several European Tour events because of post-viral fatigue syndrome.
