Tiger Woods moved to within three shots of Jyoti Randhawa's lead after the second day at the Champions Tournament.

Woods sank an eagle and seven birdies to equal the course record of 64, set earlier by Swede Henrik Stenson, and share third spot with Michael Campbell.

Randhawa compiled a solid 69 to retain his surprise lead over the star-studded field in Shanghai on 10 under.

South African Retief Goosen is one shot adrift of the Indian in second after carding a round of 67.

Woods was back in his groove after an average opening round of 72 but felt he could have carded a 61 had he not missed a host of birdie chances.

As it was, the world number one blotted his card with a single bogey when he three-putted from 15 feet on the 13th.

I was in control of the ball all day

He quickly made amends on the 14th when he rolled in a 10-foot putt for an eagle.

"I did miss a couple and a couple of others lipped out," said the Open and USPGA champion.

"It's close to my best ball-striking of the year. Hopefully I can do it again on the weekend because that's what you're going to have to do to win this tournament."

Randhawa was satisfied after mixing six birdies and three bogeys for a 69 and an overall score of 134.

606 DEBATE: Can Randhawa hold off Tiger's charge?

"I'm very delighted," he said. "I didn't think I would end up leading the golf tournament after two days, especially in a field like this.

"But I guess I played well and I am just happy to be here."

European Order of Merit winner Padraig Harrington finished on a two-under-par 70 to tie for fifth at the halfway point.

The Irishman joined Scotland's early leader Marc Warren, who slipped down the leaderboard with three bogeys on the back nine.

World number two Jim Furyk carded a six-under-par 66 to lie in 10th place alongside Colin Montgomerie and Luke Donald.

Stenson sunk eight birdies in a bogey-free round to set the course record at the Sheshan International Golf Club before Woods equalled his feat.

However, Stenson's opening round of 76 meant he was still six shots away from the lead in a share of 17th.
