India's Jyoti Randhawa leads the Champions Tournament by one stroke after the first round as Tiger Woods struggled on his return to action.

Randhawa carded a flawless 65 in Shanghai to finish on seven under, one ahead of Michael Campbell, Yong-eun Yang and Scot Marc Warren.

Warren was denied a share of the lead after he lost his ball on the 15th.

Woods, who has had a five-week break, is at level par after a opening round which included a double-bogey six.

He started well with a birdie at the 10th but carded a six at the next after hooking his drive into the trees.

Woods did birdie the 16th, 2nd and 3rd to move to two under but dropped shots at the 6th and 8th, the latter coming after he pushed a fairway wood into the water.

"I was right there in a position to get to four under," he said.

It was one of the biggest rounds of my career

"Unfortunately, it didn't happen that way - it went the other way - and I left myself an awful lot of work with three days to go."

Warren was tied for the lead on six under when he walked to the 15th but he could not find his ball after driving into the rough.

After a lengthy delay, officials ruled that the 25-year-old Scandinavian Masters champion had to declare it lost.

"The girls there said they had seen someone running off which caused us to believe that the balls had been stolen," he said.

"But if no one sees anyone actually physically pick the ball up then it goes as a lost ball, which happened in this case."

Campbell, who has also had a break, is in the hunt after a 66 put him on six under.

Padraig Harrington, who clinched the European Order of Merit title last month, is on five under after a 67 while Colin Montgomerie carded five birdies in a three-under 69.

However defending champion David Howell is off the pace on one over after coming home in 39.

Randhawa, who won the Indian Open last month after a three-way play-off, said he was delighted with his display.

"It was one of the biggest rounds of my career," he said. "It is a big tournament, big players, so to be leading gives me great pleasure."
