Montgomerie keen to end drought
Colin Montgomerie
Montgomerie is desperate to win before the year is out
Colin Montgomerie says he is determined to maintain his record of at least one title a year before the end of 2006.

The Scot had another fine Ryder Cup but finished only ninth in this season's Order of Merit on the European Tour.

"It has been a poor season," admitted the 43-year-old. "I am desperate to win as I have never gone a calendar year without winning a title.

"I have six or seven events left and I intend to keep that run going with a victory in one of them."

Montgomerie will begin his quest at the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai, beginning on 9 November.

The tournament marks the start of the 2006-07 European campaign and has attracted a strong field including world number one Tiger Woods, second-ranked Jim Furyk and Order of Merit winner Padraig Harrington.
