American rookie Eric Axley shot a second successive round of 63 to lead the Texas Open by four shots.

He leads compatriots Chris Riley, Ted Purdy and Frank Lickliter II, but Englishman Justin Rose is still in contention two shots further back.

The Briton recovered from a poor second round to card a 65, which moved him up to joint sixth place.

Bernhard Langer, captain of Europe's Ryder Cup team two years ago, is back on eight under after a round of 69.
